I’ve not long
returned from the greatest FMX road trip I’ve ever been on. 5000Km on the road
with Europe’s funny man of FMX, the great Busty Wolter, at the helm, and
joined by Fuel TV’s M80 guru Adam Barker, and another classic character being
Ryan Leyba, an old mate I’d previously met in 2003 while on another road trip
taking in the action of the Warpt Big Gap Challenge in West Oz. Four of us
rocked from Berlin, Germany, to Switzerland, then through the south of France to
Spain laughing till our jaws hurt visiting seven of the best FMX parks Europe
has to offer, and catching up with a total of 21 riders from seven countries.
It was epic to say the least, and after six years spent dealing with FMX riders
from all corners of the globe I have to say the Euro lads have to be some of
the most professional, easy-to-work-with, got-their-shit-together, and highly
talented riders I’ve had the pleasure to work with, and they love to ride when
the camera’s come out, even long after the sun has disappeared. Euro
freestyler’s kick arse man!!!
The Euro roadtripping crew from left: Adam Barker, Goba, Leyba and Busty!
Freerider MX
magazine has long been wanting to unearth the Euro scene for the Australian
freestyle fans, and in one hit, thanks to Busty, I got more photos and cool
interviews with the top Euro riders than I could have ever imagined before
starting the trip. Over the next four issues of Freerider MX readers will be
getting a great insight into each rider and their country, how they entered
into the sport, what it’s like to live and ride in Europe, a look at their
parks, and much more.
During the two week
road trip I took close to 2000 images, and kept around 1200 of the suckers, and
as I’ll obviously be saving the best for FRMX I have loaded some of the B-grade
images to give you guys a taste of what is to come. Enjoy!!
Busty behind the wheel and M80's Adam Barker rockin it out, most likely to The Clash
One end of the Upforce compound in Berlin.
Fabian Bauersachs heads Busty over 75 during an awesome display of trust in each others riding ability.
Fab busts out a No Handed Catwalk giving you a view of the other end of the park.
Busty working hard while Leyba and Barker chill in his new pad.
Busty laying it flat at Upforce member Stefan Bengs park 40 mins from Berlin.
Switzerland and Matt Rebaud was next stop, and man can this guy ride. His park is dope too!
We had the pleasure of a meal with Mat and the crew at his new house.
Mat's park drying out before the first session got underway.
Italian rider Alvaro Dalfarra gets a ride out of Mat's pit.
Leyba works the camera while Barker fires the questions on one of many interviews they did for M80.
Busty getting in touch with nature.
Our first stop in France was at Remi Bizourd's park, and here he leads Busty over his 75-foot gap.
A friend of Remi's finished building some freeride hits the day we arrived. Here a local rider gaps the big uphill hit.
Leyba loving the red stuff in France, and that's Remi with his daughter behind.
Ride To Party Man! Welcome to Italian Alavaro Dalfarra's world.
Our second stop in France was at Manu Troux's park, pictured here on the bike. Another sick park!
The exciting Thomas Page leads Alvaro off one of five kickers in the park. Thomas and his brother Charlie were two of the surprise discoveries for me on tour. Watch out for them in the near future.
Manu and his troups prepare their park after every ride to perfection...Very impressive!
Andrea Villa's park at our last stop in Spain was by far the best on tour. He just spent 60,000 Euro on the sucker and the options for riders are endless.
Villa shows Ronnie Faisst, who was chillin in town with Jeremy Lusk, a few pics from shooter Chris Stock. You might have noticed some of Chris' pics of Maddo in a recent issue of Freerider.
Busty cops a slap across the chops from Misha (Villa's girl) for an M80 skit.
The sunset shoots at Villa's park were epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best yet to come in future issues of Freerider so make sure you check them out...
