For those who haven’t experienced riding a motorcycle through the remote terrain our amazing country offers – for days on end – you’re definitely missing out on something very special. I’ve not long returned from an 8-day 4500km adventure ride that started in my home town of Uki, Northern NSW, then meet up with 50 other adventure riders for the start of the annual Wild Boar Imperative, which started at Bollon, 8-hours west of Brisbane, and followed a mix of fast flowing dirt, sand, rocky 4wd tracks through 50 or so private properties all the way to Camerons Corner (where the QLD, NSW and South Oz borders meet) and back again.

The beast that got me there and back again without incident. The mighty KTM 990 Adventure!

It was an epic journey and one of my favourite rides of the year. The Bollon crew, lead by Stu Mitchell, put in many hours to make the ride happen all for the good cause of raising money for the local Bollon school. This year riders came from as far as Victoria, Perth, Darwin, all corners of Queensland, and what a fantastic bunch of lads they were, and not forgetting the solo female rider Dagma – The Flying Dagger. She toughed it out with the boys like a true champ until a big crash got the better of her and a trip to hospital came calling. I rode the new Fuel Injected KTM990 Adventure. I had such a great time riding the big girl, and didn’t want to get off even after the long ride home to Uki from Bollon. It’s so comfortable on the road and just eats the dirt roads up like a hungry bear. I’ll be putting together a story on the Wild Boar and 990 for an upcoming issue of TBAM, so you have to wait until then to hear all about my adventures. There’s some great yarns to tell trust me!

Money raised from last years Wild Boar enabled the Bollon school to buy instruments for the kids and they thanked us by playing some funky tunes before departure, thanks kids!

Riding side by side to avoid the dust was a smart move.

Oh, and I forgot to mention putting our route sheets together was a real bitch!

Gazza made the fifth day but not the sixth after a big get-off. Get well soon mate!

Next time you see this bloke ask him what he uses his Rectinol for … Ha ha Nick.

Plenty of time to chill at night by the fire.

Geoff Hewitt also gave his 990 Adventure a good work out.

Air-time in the dunes.

Sunsets were amazing.
